DEJA VACCINE. On Friday, five years and two days after he first spoke publicly on the COVID-19 virus (feel free to check me there), Governor Abbott commented publicly for the first time on the rise of measles cases in Texas.

Yesterday evening, U.S. Secretary for Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy penned an op-ed at Fox News calling for vaccinations.

And today, the House Committee on Public Health will hear testimony from the Health and Human Services Commission and the Department of State Health Services.

Current Status. The Texas Department of State Health Services reports 146 confirmed cases of measles in the South Plains region since late January. Of these, 20 patients have been hospitalized, and tragically, one child has died. The outbreak's epicenter is in Gaines County, with significant cases also in Terry County and other surrounding areas. DSHS is currently issuing updates on Tuesdays and Fridays, but I would guess we'll get a status update this morning in the Public Health Committee.

What Abbott said: "Last week, I directed DSHS to deploy necessary resources including epidemiologists, immunization teams, and specimen collection teams to affected areas," Abbott wrote on X on Friday. "The State Medical Operations Center is managing resource deployment and daily situation updates, and coordination calls are being held with local hospitals, health authorities, and response teams."
